Cross-checks Google’s Not found (404) reason-bucket against dare_404_audit.py’s LIVE broken-page count. These measure DIFFERENT universes: GSC’s bucket is every URL it has ever crawled to a 404 (historical pages + external inbound dead links, aged out slowly), while our audit sees only live internal links + sitemap — so a large GSC ≫ ours gap is the HEALTHY case, not an alert. Judged by what’s actionable: RED/YELLOW only when WE serve live 404s (by magnitude), or when GSC’s own count SURGES week-over-week while our audit stays clean. An unreadable audit corpus errors loudly rather than masquerading as a content finding.
